The longer the time has passed, the more I become founded using this word - AYF Family.


Today, I joined our AYF reunion, again at the Japan Foundation Kansai Center where we had a welcome party for the 11th batch people in July last year. It was really nice to see these people again.

We had an opening speech by Eto-sensei, a screening committee of AYF. Here is what he told us:
What would you need to be in school and live in a Japanese society?
(1) good health - take care of your good health. It's the first condition you need to have in order to start doing something else,
(2) smily face - that's what you will need to get into a society, and
(3) interests - find something you feel "interesting" to do for your research. It will help you steer your motivation and excitement to get things done.
I just love how simple his speech was, but rich of meaningful messages. :)

Then, we had our 5th batch senior, Karen, to address introduction speech on behalf of AYF alumni before we headed out for lunch and free time sessions.

Of course, AYF is not only about serious stuff, we also had fun with a short karaoke session at the karaoke center within this Japan Foundation Kansai Center. Quite a decent life in here, huh!

Afternoon session was probably a nightmare to our AYF fresh graduates. They all have worries about how they lives will be once they enter a Japanese university and education system. Some of us, eventhough already enrolled in the upper education course, sometimes still struggle through our ways. This was what we all could help each other. Not to hide all the scary facts, but to shared with everyone our direct experiences - good and bad. We had Karen, our 5th batch senior shared with us her life as a Masters, but got totally sick on her last year of Masters Course in which forced her to drop out of school and lost her scholarship. Now she is back doing her Ph.D. on her own expense. Then, Amapola, our 7th batch senior who is about to graduate her Ph.D. program this year. Then, Pradith and I!(Yeah yeah.. I was working.. working! =P)

Of course, we had a Q&A session in which we freely asked each other anything possible. The great part was to have our AYF screening/steering commitees participated in answering questions and giving comments. It was great hearing something from professors' point of view. Some facts are hard to believe, but we just need to live with!

I can fully say I never feel regret being a part of this AYF program. I've also said today during my speech, it was my pure luck to be here. (I started off with an application to Monbugakakusho Scholarship via the Embassy, but ended up with the AYF program unintentionally.) I always recall the moment I received the phonecall learning I was still allowed to join AYF program eventhough the program has already started. I have fought my ways through goods and bads and I know, somehow, that the AYF people are watching over me. I'm grateful to the AYF program to have given me this chance. I'm especially thankful for the trust and confidence they all have in me. Sometimes I don't have that trust or confidence myself, but I promise, I will not let you down.

As Hara-san (AsiaSEED) and Prof.Moriizumi (AYF Steering Committee) have stated it well in their closing speeches. We are from different background and different ways of life, but we are all here united as an AYF family. Whenever you need someone, you can be sure this AYF family is always there for you.

And my Lumix has come to life! (AL - this is for you!! =P) Just happened to pass by Kamo & Takano Rivers areas today. Good chance to play around with my new toy. After 5+ years with Sony's, I'm still not used to handling Panasonic's just yet. Probably have to find more chances to test it. Btw, some photos were adjusted with photo editor program.

Panasonic Family

After letting Jill go ahead with the "Mac Family" as appeared in my very old blog. Now, I have turned into a Panasonic fan! Well, just only the notebook and camera though. Oh... actually... my TV and boombox is also a Panasonic! =P

Well, the thing is, I just found out how to turn in the unused electronics gadgets to electronic store that accepts buyback options. Wanting to get rid of my old notebook (that has been causing me too much trouble during the past year), I gave it a try expecting buy back rate to be around 10-15% of the price I purchased. BUT.... they quoted me at max nearly 40%!! This notebook is already 2.5 years and known to be a attention-calling model. I totally didn't expect them to buy back at this high rate. I kept everything that came with this notebook, including all attached softwares, accessories, and even a box. These gave me nearly full price of the quoted amount!! What a good deal! Of course, I switched to the light-weight Panasonic one earlier and really am satisfied with it eventhough it's the second-hand model.

Today, I also turned in my old Sony digital camera. This one is only 1.5 years, but started giving me some troubles already. Approximately 50% of the original price was really an amazing deal. Since I have lots of friends using Panasonic Lumix series digital cameras and rated them with high satisfaction level, it was really an easy decision to make when getting a new camera in replacement of the old one I just sold. So yes, I now own one too. The smallest and lightest among all that I have had before. :)

I have to admit that February is a birthmonth of many of my really close friends. You know who you are. Happy Birthday to you too :) Maybe it's the chemistry in this month of birth that drew us together. haha =P


These and all other modes of communication have delivered your birthday greetings, all of which have made my birthday so unique and very special. I'm grateful to have known you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Hand-made market

Every month on the 15th, there will be a "hand-made market" or "tezukuri-shi:手作り市" at Chion-in, a temple right around the corner of Hyakumanben junction. Off lunch break, I often visit the market which is obviously just across the street from my school.

If I remember it right, it was October of the first year in Kyoto that I visitted the market for the very first time. I wandered around seeing different merchandises that the sellers made and sell by themselves. It might be comparable to "walking streets (ถนนคนเดิน)" back in Thailand where a lot of artists gathered to present their works to public. Here, the market is more of the handcrafted goodies than paintings, but not restricted to only those. There are also yummy food sold at the market!

I had a chance to meet up with this lovely family: Nakamura Family (and friend). They own a women's accessories (like earrings and necklaces), plus bags and a few other stuff. I learned from them that they keep good touch with their customers whom they meet only a few times a year. They found it a great chance to mingle with different people at different markets they go to. It's something for them to look forward to when opening their shop. The mother remembers my name (and also my friend's name) from the very first time we met a couple of years back. Since then, whenever I walked by their shop, they would stop and shout for my name. So lovely of them! Years have passed and I just had a chance to snapshop our photo together.

Chocolate, Guys and The Valentine's

Valentine's Day is, usually, the day when people express their love to their loved ones. They tend to give each other flowers, cards, candy or chocolate (if not any other precious items) as presents. In Japan, chocolate seems to be of central interest for such subject. It has started some time not too long ago though there has not been a concrete history on that aside from the fact that it was Morozoff Limited, a sweet company in Kobe, who was the first to produce "Valentine's Chocolate" (i.e. chocolate in heart shape packaged in heart-shape box.) in Japan in 1936. Obviously, it was not a big boom until only recently.



In Japan, Valentine's Day is quite different from other part of the world. It's become a tradition for WOMEN to reveal their secret interests, and not MEN! (I think I belong in the wrong place on Valentine's!! haha) So, yes, it's the day when women buy all these chocolate and give away to guys they like. However, as the tradition goes, there emerged what-so-called "Giri Choco" (義理チョコ）or "chocolate of obligation" in which girls pass on to guys, not because they like them, but because it's some kind of obligation they should do to guys in the same work place or so. (Girls tend to give chocolate among girls too and that's called "Tomo-Choco" (友チョコ) or "chocolate for friends".)

Graph shows how much chocolate they can sell each year as a result of Giri-choco. The drop indicates lost of sales cuz Valentine's Day falls on weekend or holidays.

Riding along Valentine's tradition, there is a "White-Day" on Mar 14, when guys are expected to return favor to those give them chocolate on Valentine's. In other word, if a girl revealed their interest to you on Valentine's Day, you have one full month to think whether you want to get together with this girl or not. If you are interested, it's your turn to give back the present to that girl on Mar 14. The reason why it's a White-Day is because they usually give out cookies, candies or marshmallows. (though I only see marshmallows white in this case!)

More recently and not yet popular in general is "Orange-Day", which falls on Apr 14. A... right on Thai New Year's! =P It's the day when a couple trade each other "oranages" to confirm their love!#&%!<--- why Orange?!?!?! I really question if this will become THAT popular!

Anyways... this year... to make it more exciting for myself, I decided to buy Giri-choco and passed them on to my seniors in school. Believe it or not, in my research lab (or, in other word, my study room), there are all guys and only 3 girls including me. And today, I was the only girl in the room. It kinda made the day very fun for me and it was a great feeling to have made them smile. One of them even jokingly said "oh.. thank you... and I will consider that." haha. Also, it was the very first time I gave chocolate to guys!! haha... emphasized.. it's guySSSS... (and after all these years! Hwahahaha.)

Good Bowling Day

Last Sunday, I got to go bowling with a few friends. Nothing much, but just to keep it for myself that it was one of the good bowling days for me :)

หลังจากที่ปล่อยให้น้องโบว์มา tag ไว้หลายวันมาแล้ว วันนี้ได้ฤกษ์เล่าเรื่องตัวเอง 5 ข้อที่คิดว่าคนไม่ค่อยรู้ หรือว่ารู้ไม่ค่อยจริง เอาเลยละกันนะ

เรื่องที่ 1: เรื่องของชื่อ
ชื่อจริง "มุทริกา" เป็นชื่อที่พ่อตั้งให้ โดยวิธีเปิดพจนานุกรม แล้วก็ดูการใช้อักษรที่ไม่เป็นกาลกิณีสำหรับวันเกิด (วันเสาร์) มีความหมายมาจากรากศัพท์เดียวกับคำว่า "มุททา" แปลว่า "ตราพิมพ์ เครื่องสำหรับตีตรา แหวนตรา ยอด สูง" <-- อันนี้ท่องมาตอนเด็กๆนะ พจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน พ.ศ. 2525 พูดเองก็ชักไม่แน่ใจว่าท่องมาถูกป่าวเนี่ยะ ชื่อแปลก แต่มีที่มา เบื้องหลังคือว่าปีที่เราเกิดเป็นปีที่พ่อได้เลื่อนยศพอดิบพอดี สงสัยเกิดเป็นอภิชาตบุตรแต่กำเนิด.. ฮาฮา แล้วก็ได้ทีขอย้ำว่าชื่อดิฉันสะกดด้วย "ท ทหาร" หลายคนไม่ค่อยเคยได้ยินชื่อนี้เท่าไหร่ รู้สึกอ่านยากเลยช่วยกันพยายามเขียนให้ดูไฮโซ โดยใช้ "ฑ นางมณโฑ" แทน "ท ทหาร" กลายเป็น "มุฑริกา" หรือไม่ก็สะกดเป็น "มุทธิกา" ไปเลยก็มีบ้าง ใครได้อ่านบล๊อกวันนี้จะได้สะกดกันถูกซักที

สำหรับนามสกุล: ก็เนื่องจากมีบรรพบุรุษเป็นเชื้อสายจีน (แคะ) ออกเสียงว่า "ยับ" แปลว่า "ใบไม้" พอถึงเวลาตั้งนามสกุลเป็นไทย ก็เลยเป็นที่มาของตระกูลแห่งพืชพันธุ์ไม้ว่า "พฤกษาพงษ์" นามสกุลก็เป็นอีกอย่างที่คนนิยมสะกดให้ผิดโดยใช้ "ศ ศาลา" ให้ สะกดแบบถูกต้องอย่างง่ายๆก็ใช้ "ษ ฤาษี" สองตัวเลยครับผ๊ม แต่ทำไมถึงใช้ "พงษ์" นี้ อันนี้ไม่มีคำตอบแฮะ ไม่รู้เหมือนกัน แถมอาๆที่เกิดหลังคนที่คิดนามสกุลนี้ให้ยังต้องเพี้ยนไปใช้ "พฤกษาวงศ์" แทนอีกต่างหาก ซับซ้อนจริงๆ

เรื่องที่ 2: แผลเป็น
เชื่อว่าตอนเด็กๆทุกคนต้องเคยเจ็บตัว มีแผลเป็นติดเป็นของกำนัลมาตอนโตกันทั้งนั้น มุทริกาก็เป็นค่ะ แต่อันนี้อาจจะไม่ใช่จากความซนเท่าไหร่ ภาษาชาวบ้านเค้าคงเรียกว่าซื่อบื่อมากกว่า เรื่องมีอยู่ว่า.. ตอนนั้นเรียนว่ายน้ำสมัยอยู่ไม่ชั้นเด็กเล็กก็ป.1 ที่่สาธิตประสานมิตรนี่แหล่ะ เป็นคอร์สหลังเลิกเรียนแล้ว ปกติถ้าคนจะว่ายน้ำเค้าก็จะหันหน้าเข้าหาสระน้ำแล้วก็กระโดดลงสระใช่ป่ะ วันนั้นจำไม่ได้เหมือนกันว่าคิดยังไง ไม่ชอบการกระโดดหันเข้า พุ่งหัวลงสระ กลัวจมมั้ง ก็เลยพิเรณ (โดยบริสุทธิ์ใจ) กระโดดลงสระแบบหันหลังให้สระ ผลก็คือ... กึ่ก... คางกระแทกกับขอบสระอย่างจังๆ จึ๋ย... เจ๊บ ปาดๆดูมีเลือดออกด้วย ถูกต้องคร้าบบบ คางแตกคร้าบบ แม่เล่าให้ฟังว่ามีผู้ปกครองเด็กคนอื่นนั่งอยู่ข้างสระตอนนั้น เห็นเราเลือดสาดก็รีบตะโกนตามหาผู้ปกครองใหญ่เลยว่าประมาณว่า "เด็กคนนั้นลูกใครคะ คางแตกเลือดออก" แม่ก็รีบมาเอาเราขึ้นจากสระแล้วก็เหาะไปโรงพยาบาล เย็บแผลไปตามระเบียบ ปัจจุบันยังคงมีรอยแผลเป็นให้เห็นลางๆ (จริงๆมีอีกแผลที่เป็นผลพวงจากความงั่งของตัวเอง แต่ไม่เล่าละ.. เอาไปเรื่องเดียวพอ)

เรื่องที่ 3: เรียกพบผู้ปกครอง
ใครจะคิดว่านักเรียนเจ้าของรางวัลเรียนดี ประพฤติดีหลายปีติดกันอย่างเราจะเคยโดนเรียกพบผู้ปกครองด้วย เรื่องนี้เกิดเมื่อป.5 ย้ายโรงเรียนเพียงแค่อาทิตย์แรกก็เจอเลย ครูประจำชั้นสมัยนั้นเขียนในสมุดการบ้านที่ต้องให้พ่อให้แม่เซ็นชื่อทุกวันว่า "ขอเชิญพบผู้ปกครองของมุทริกาด้วยค่ะ" รุ่งขึ้นก็เดือดร้อนแม่นะคะ ที่ต้องเป็นคนไปพบครูให้ ด้วยความตกใจว่าลูกชั้นไปทำอะไรไว้ มีลูกสามคน ไม่เคยมีใครโดนเรียกผู้ปกครองมาก่อน นี่ย้ายโรงเรียนยังไม่ครบอาทิตย์ ไปทำอะไรไว้ให้ครูต้องมาเรียกชั้นไปพบเนี่ยะะะ (อันนี้คิดเองนะว่าแม่คงคิดอย่างนั้น) อันนี้ต้องเกริ่นย้อนหลังไปสองวันก่อนหน้านั้น ที่โรงเรียนทำบะหมี่หมูแดงเป็นอาหารกลางวัน มุทริกาเป็นเด็กที่ขึั้นชื่อว่าไม่ชอบกินผักมากกกกกกกก กินได้ก็พวกผักบุ้ง ผักกาดขาว กะหล่ำปลี อะไรอย่างนี้จะชอบมาก ถ้าเป็นผักอย่างอื่นจะมีปัญหา ตอนเด็กๆ สมัยอยู่โรงเรียนเก่าก็ชอบเขี่ยเก็บใส่ทิชชูแอบเอาไปทิ้งบ้าง บางทีกลัวโดนครูจับได้ก็เอาใส่ผ้าเช็ดหน้า แล้วค่อยเอาไปทิ้งตอนหลังบ้าง (อันนี้พ่อกะแม่เคยจับได้ครั้งนึง กลับมาถึงบ้านถามเราว่าวันนี้กินข้าวหมดมั้ย ไอ้เราก็พาซื่อ.. วันนั้นกินหมดจริงๆๆๆๆ ก็ยืดอกบอกพ่อกะแม่ว่า.. "กินหมดดิ กินหมด ไม่เชื่อดูในผ้าเช็ดหน้าสิ ไม่มีอะไรเลย" เสร่อไปทำตัวให้พ่อให้แ่ม่จับได้อีกว่าชอบเขี่ยอาหารใส่ผ้าเช็ดหน้า อย่างนี้เรียกว่าโกหกไม่เป็นตั้งแต่เด็กๆเลย) อ่ะ.. กลับเข้าเรื่องเิดิม.. ก็ปกติบะหมี่หมูแดงเนี่ยะมันจะต้องใส่ผักกวางตุ้งใช่ป่ะ แล้วสมัยนั้นก็รู้สึกว่าผักอะไรเนี่ยะ ทำไมมันขมอย่างนี้ อารมณ์จำใจต้องกิน พอกินแล้วก็เหม็นเขียว ก็แบบปวดหัว ก็เลยกินเหลือ พอเอาถาดไปทิ้ง อาจารย์ก็ยืนคุมอยู่ดูว่านักเรียนกินข้าวหมดจานมั้ย ก็เสร็จสิ เหลือผัก อาจารย์ก็ถามว่าทำไมไม่กิน เราก็บอกว่ากินแล้วมันปวดหัวค่ะ (พาซื่อ) เลยเสร็จเลย อาจารย์เรียกแม่มาเพื่อถามว่า "น้องใหม่แพ้ผักเหรอคะ ไม่เห็นเขียนไว้ในใบสมัคร" (แหม่วววว) เรื่องนี้ก็ยังเป็นอีกเรื่องที่แม่ชอบยกขึ้นมาล้อเราเรื่อยเลยยยย (เลิกล้อได้แล้วแม่่่...เก่าแล้ววววววว)

เรื่องที่ 4: ความขัดแย้งในตัวเอง
มุทริกาเป็นคนทีี่่ใครๆก็ชอบบอกว่าเป็นคนมีความมั่นใจและกล้าแสดงออกมากกกกกกกก แต่.......... ไม่ค่อยมีคนรู้หรอกว่าลึกๆแล้วจริงๆเป็นคนขี้กลัวมากๆ กลัวสารพัด ไม่ค่อยมีหรอกความมั่นใจหน่ะ ต้องให้คนรอบข้างช่วยกันบู๊ตมันขึ้นมา ก่อนจะทำอะไรต้องรวบรวมกำลังภายในขึ้นมาตั้งนึง พร้อมความุ่งมั่น ตั้งใจ เต็มที่ ประมาณว่าไหนๆก็ไหนๆละ ถ้าไม่ตั้งใจ ไม่เต็มที่ก็จะต้องเสียใจภายหลัง สู้เอามันซักตั้งนี่แหล่ะ ถ้าทำได้ก็จะได้รู้ไปเลยว่าทำได้ ถ้าทำไม่ได้จะได้ไม่เสียใจว่าไม่ได้ลองพยายามแล้ว ผ่านอะไรๆมาได้ก็เพราะอย่างนี้ละมั้ง คนเลยนึกดูว่าเราเป็นสาวมั่น(ขยันยัดเยียดให้กันจริงๆ) มีครั้งนึงจะทำการอย่างนึง แล้วกลั๊ว...กลัว ว่าจะทำออกมาไม่ได้ ก็มีพี่ที่เค้าทำงานนั้นอยู่ด้วยกันบอกกะเราว่า "พี่เชื่อว่าถ้าน้องใหม่ตั้งใจจะทำ น้องใหม่ก็จะทำมันออกมาได้ดีมาก ไม่ต้องกลัว" เป็นคำพูดให้กำลังใจเราที่ดีมากเลย คอยเอาไว้เตือนตัวเองเวลาจะทำอะไร ไม่รู้ว่าพี่คนนั้นจะได้มีโอกาสแว๊บมาอ่านบล๊อกเรามั่งมั้ยน้าาา ขอบคุณนะคะ

เรื่องที่ 5 (เรื่องสุดท้ายแล้ววว): ชีวิต(และครอบครัว)ต่างแดน
เลือกอยู่นานว่าจะเล่าเรื่องอะไรดี... ก็... เอาเรื่องนี้ละกันนะ เป็นเรื่องที่คนสับสนมากมาย ว่ายายนี่มันเคยไปอยู่มาแล้วกี่ที่ ไปไหนตอนไหน เรียงไม่ถูก จะเรียงเท่าที่นึกได้นะ
Mar - May, 1992: Poole, U.K. กับโครงการเรียนซัมเมอร์ของก.พ. จำอะไรไม่ค่อยได้แล้วล่ะ แต่ที่ไม่ลืมเลยก็คือว่า ไปไหนต้องถือ dictionary ติดตัวไว้ตลอดเวลา ประเภทว่าคุยกะใครก็ไม่รู้เรื่อง อ้อ.. แล้วก็เป็นครั้งแรกที่เราได้มี host family กะคนอื่นเค้า ปัจจุบัน.. ไม่ได้ติดต่อกันแล้ว ไม่รู้ว่าเป็นยังไงกันบ้าง
Mar - May, 1993: Tempa Bay, Florida อันนี้ไปซัมเมอร์ เข้าโรงเรียน Catholic ของเมือง แล้วไปอยู่กับเพื่อนแม่ที่นั่น พี่ใหญ่ไปด้วย แต่ไปกันคนละโรงเรียน เป็นอีกจุดพลิกผันในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษของเรา แล้วก็ทำให้ได้ไปรู้จักกับอีกศาสนาหนึ่งโดยไม่ได้ตั้งใจ จำได้ว่าเพื่อนๆถามกันเรื่องศาสนาพุทธกันมาก เพราะว่าโรงเรียนที่ไปเป็น Catholic
Aug'94 - Jul'95: Poland, New York กับสมาคมไทย-อเมริกัน กะโครงการร่วมกับ AISE เป็นโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักเรียนคล้ายๆ AFS ไปเรียนที่ Poland Central School โดดโรงเรียนไปตอนม.4 กลับมาก็พาสขึ้นไปเรียนม.5 เลย ไปครั้งนี้เป็นความท้าทายอีกครั้ง ไปอยู่ยังไง ไปกะใคร ไม่มีใครรู้เลย สมัยนั้นโทรฯก็แพง อินเตอร์เน็ตก็ไม่มี ก็อาศัยเขียนจดหมายคุยกับที่บ้านกับเพื่อนๆเอา คลาสสิคมาก เมืองที่ไปก็เล็กซะ มีประชากรประมาณ 500 คน ที่สำคัญมีจำนวนวัวมากกว่าคน ตอนไปแรกๆก็ไปเป็นเด็กฟาร์มเลยแหล่ะ ใครคิดว่าไปนิวยอร์คเจริญ.. กลับความคิดด่วน ปีนั้นทั้งปีผจญชะตาชีวิตมากมายทั้งดีและไม่ดี ภายในปีนึง โตขึ้นเยอะ แล้วก็อ้วนขึ้นเยอะะะะะะะะะด้วย (ใหม่คนผอมๆตอนเด็กๆนี่หายไปตั้งแต่บัดนั้น.. เศร้า.. T_T) ไปครั้งนี้ก็ทำให้ได้มี host family ที่เป็นแบบครอบครัวอีกครอบครัวของเราเลยที่นู่น ตั้งแต่จากบ้านกลับเมืองไทยคราวนั้น ถึงบัดนี้ก็เคยกลับไปเยี่ยมเค้าแล้วประมาณ 3-4 ครั้งได้ ถือว่าเยอะเหมือนกันนะเนี่ยะ

Jun - Aug, 1998: Boston, MA. ครั้งนี้เข้าเรียนที่ BE ธรรมศาสตร์แล้ว เรียนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษหมด (ยกเว้นวิชาภาษาไทย) ก็เลยหาเรื่องไปเพิ่มพูนความรู้ภาษาอังกฤษเพิ่มตอนซัมเมอร์ปี 1 ไปเข้าเรียนที่ Harvard University Summer School คอร์ส Professional Communication and Writing Workshops 2 คอร์ส (เรียนอะไรมาตอนนี้คืนไปหมดแล้วนะ) ตอนนั้นแจ๋เพื่อนร้ากกก ไปเรียนภาษาอังกฤษเหมือนกันที่ Yale ไม่ไกลกันมาก เลยมีโอกาสได้เจอกันด้วย ไปครั้งนี้ก็ไปพักกะเพื่อนแม่อีก เป็นคนบอสตัน คู่สามี ภรรยา น่ารักมากๆ ดูแลเราเหมือนลูกเลย
Aug - Dec, 2000: Austin, Texas นี่ก็เป็นอีกครั้งที่ไปเป็นนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนที่ U of Texas at Austin ตอนเทอมต้นของปี 4 สมัยอยู่ BE ธรรมศาสตร์ ไปครั้งนี้เรียนโหดมาก เพราะว่าต้องโอนหน่วยกิจกลับมาเพื่อจบของธรรมศาสตร์ ไปอยู่หอ เลยไม่มีครอบครัวที่ texas แต่ได้เพื่อนสนิทหิ้วกลับมาด้วยคนนึง
Sep - Dec, 2001: Nagoya, Japan เป็นครั้งแรกที่ไปอยู่ต่างแดนโดยที่ไม่ได้ไปเรียน ครั้งนี้ไปฝึกงานกับบริษัทชื่อ Tsuchiya ที่เป็น supplier ให้กับผู้ผลิตรถยนต์อย่าง Toyoya และ Mitsubishi เป็นโครงการที่เราได้รับโอกาสมาจาก AIESEC ชมรมที่เราเคยทำกิจกรรมด้วยตลอดสี่ปีที่อยู่ที่ธรรมศาสตร์ เป็นกิจกรรมที่ีให้โอกาสนักศึกษาได้มีโอกาสไปฝึกงาน ไปทำงานเมืองนอก ในขณะเดียวกันก็เป็นอีกโอกาสสำหรับบริษัทที่จะได้นักศึกษาจากต่างชาติที่มีคุณสมบัติตรงกับที่บริษัทอยากได้ เพื่อมาฝึกงานด้วย win-win solution ว่างั้น เราได้รับการดูแลจากนักศึกษาญี่ปุ่นของมหาวิทยาลัย Nanzan ที่นาโกย่า แล้วก็ได้ไปอาศัยบ้านพักชายคาของครอบครัวญี่ปุ่นตลอด 3-4 เดือนนั้น นี่ก็เป็นอีกครอบครัวที่ยังติดต่อกันถึงทุกวันนี้
Mar'03 - Mar'04: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia เปลี่ยนแนวมั่ง มาอยู่มาเลย์บ้าง ไม่เคยคิดว่าจะมีโอกาสได้ไปอยู่บ้านใกล้เรือนเคียง ประเทศเพื่อนบ้านเรานี่เอง เค้าเรียกว่าดวงให้มาอยู่ เพราะว่าตอนนั้นหลังจากชวดทุนมองบูโช ก็ไปสอบติดทุนกระทรวงต่างประเทศญี่ปุ่น แต่ติดสำรองนะ ใครจะคาดคิดว่าทุนทั้งหมดที่มีปีละ 18 ทุน แล้วให้โควต้านักเรียนไทยแค่ 2 ทุน โดยมีเราเป็นสำรองลำดับที่ 2 อยู่ดีๆจะได้จับพลัดจับผลูโดนเรียกตัวมาเสริมทัพด่วนชนิดที่หัวหน้าที่ทำงานเราก็อึ้งๆไปเลย ได้รับโทรศัพท์มาจากทุนบอกว่าถ้ายังอยากรับทุนอยู่ให้เดินทางไปมาเลย์ให้ได้ใน 2 อาทิตย์เพราะว่าโรงเรียนเริ่มเปิดเรียนไปแล้ว ลาออกจากที่ทำงานวันนั้น หัวหน้าไม่อึ้งก็ให้รู้ไป ก็ไปเรียนภาษาญี่ปุ่นที่โรงเรียนที่ตั้งขึ้นมาเฉพาะสำหรับทุนนี้ เรียกทุนว่า Asian Youth Fellowship หรือเรียกสั้นๆว่า AYF ใช้ชีวิตกับนักเรียนอาเซียนกับบังคลาเทศรวมทั้งหมด 18 ชีวิต กับอาจารย์ญี่ปุ่น 4 คน แล้วก็เจ้าหน้าที่ทุนอีกนิดหน่อย เรียนรู้ภาษาญี่ปุ่น ไปพร้อมๆกับความเป็นอยู่ของสมาชิกประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน ต่างวัฒนธรรม ต่างชาติ ต่างภาษา ต่างศาสนา จนวันนี้ก็เป็นครอบครัว AYF ครอบครัวใหญ่ในญี่ปุ่นด้วยกัน อบอุ่นมากกกก
Apr'04 - present: Kyoto, Japan ครั้งนี้เป็นครั้งล่าสุดในการได้มาใช้ชีิวิตต่างแดน แล้วก็เป็นครั้งแรกที่จากบ้านติดต่อกันเป็นเวลานานๆๆๆๆ เรียนโท-เอกที่มหาวิทยาลัยเกียวโต (จะบอกทำไมอีกเนี่ยะ จบๆได้แล้วเน๊อะ)

เล่าไปเล่ามาชักมัน เรื่องราวต่างๆพาลจะผุดขึ้นมาให้เล่าได้ไม่จบสิ้น ข้อสุดท้ายนี่ไม่ได้ตั้งใจให้ยาวเลย แต่ทำไมเขียนไปเขียนมามันยาวงี้ก็ไม่รู้ ยังไงก็ขอขอบคุณคนที่อ่านมาถึงตรงนี้นะ.. ชั้นรู้มันยาวมากกกก ก็ขอสานต่อความเป็น blog tag เอาไปแปะต่อกับผู้โชคดีอีก 5 ราย ดังมีรายนามต่อไปนี้...

จริงๆแล้วมีรายชื่อผู้โชคดีอยู่ในมือหลายคน แต่ว่าบางคนไม่มีบล๊อกบ้าง บางคนมีทีท่าว่าคงไม่เขียนบ้าง ผู้โชคดีทั้ง 5 ท่านด้านบนนี้ ท่านได้รับการเลือกสรรมาแล้ว อย่าลืมไปแปะคนอื่นต่อน้า... =)

JLPT - an achievement of (last) year

After my 2nd attempt in taking the Level 1 Japanese Proficiency Test, I finally PASSED! Yahoo~~~~. What a happy news for today :)

The Three Sisters in Kinosaki Onsen

The three of us haven't been traveling together in a really long time. The very last time we grouped together was at P'Yai's wedding in Vancouver nearly 2 years ago. Riding on a chance that P'Yai and P'Jr took a brief stop in Japan on their way back to Vancouver, we made a weekend trip to Kinosaki Onsen together.

Kinosaki Onsen is, of course, a town full of "onsen" (or hotsprings) as its name has declared. It's located in Northern Hyogo Prefecture which is about 2-3 hours on rapid train from Kyoto and is famous especially during winter for its onsen and crab meal. The central part of the town is only within 2-3 square kilometers (from my rough imagination). There is one small river cutting across town running in the west-east direction. Hotels and restaurants are centralized near Kinosaki Onsen train station and this river, so everything is accessable on foot.

Jill came to meet us up at Kyoto station around 10 a.m. of Saturday, January 27. We couldn't get a direct express train, so we had to take a train with one transfer at Fukuchiyama Station. The total travel time is indifference between the two types of train though.

We arrived to Kinosaki Onsen town around 1-ish, to walked along the street and grabbed late lunch. Hotel check-in was at 3 p.m. We had our reservation with "Kobayashi-ya", a 20-room size Japanese-style hotel (or Ryokan).

Our objective for the trip was to relax and enjoy bathing in natural onsen. We were planning to go around the 7 onsens and dip ourselves in the water in these two days. So once we checked in the hotel, got demonstration on how to put on kimino-set, we were ready to head out to bath.

Since it's winter time, the weather was nearly 0 degree celcius, we had to put on 3 layers of kimono set. First, the summer Yukata (if you come in the summer time, you will need only this), then a kimono and a kimono jacket.

We picked up free onsen passes from the lobby, put on ryokan's geta (Japanese style sandles), and grabbed umbrella and headed out to the furthest onsen called "Mandara-Yu".

Then, we walked over to "Kouno-yu". Very near this bathhouse, there was an onsen-egg making place where you can just drop fresh eggs in onsen water by yourself.

Our third bathhouse for the day was "Goshono-yu". It was dark already when we arrived. We love this one the most our of all onsen we went in the area. The atmosphere was really relaxing and the outdoor bath was nice.

It's then time for dinner call back at the ryokan. Our meal for today was definitely the famous Matsuba CRAB meal! Dang... I'm really not a big crab fan. Those who know why, please don't laugh!! =P We did the small type of crab meal. The set came with 1) grilled crab (or mini steak up to your choice), 2) sashimi, 3) steamed crab, 4) crab tofu, 5) crab hot pot and 6) the side dishes + rice at the end of the meal. Total crab meat is of 1 1/4 crab per person. Though it was a small size meal (meaning less amount of crab), we thought it was more than enough.

The day didn't end just with the meal. We relaxed a bit after our dinner, then continue visitting 2 more bathhouse, "Yanagi-yu", one of the smallest bathhouses in the area but with a very homy Japanese traditional atmosphere, and "Satono-yu", the newest and largest bathhouse with Romanesque decoration. Also got to peak "Jizou-yu" just to see how it looks like inside.

The first thing in the morning that we did was to wake up and dragged ourselves to bath at the last out of these 7 onsens called "Ichino-yu", which is right across the river from our ryokan.

Then we were stuffed again with breakfast set before relaxing at the foot-onsen nearby.

After checking out, we still had some time to stroll along the road, tasting some food and buying some souvenirs.

Our train departed again at 12.33 p.m. All of us had a really good time and it was strange enough we all got homesick after the trip, especially when Jill left to Osaka, P'Yai and P'JR went back to Vancouver and I came back home alone. I look forward to our next trip together (also with mom and dad) soon!

Life's back to normal

After having gone home for nearly a month, now I'm back to reality in Kyoto. Sounds like a long break, but it was a fairly good amount of time to get myself aligned and focused especially in mentality term.

I remember leaving home with partial feeling of wanting to escape the truth, but I feel really good now to realize I'm fully charged and ready to face the world. I'm owing my gratitude to lots of people I have met during my trip back to Bangkok - old and new faces. You guys really helped me remind who I am and assure my stance in life. Now I gained back my stand point! :)
