There went another 30th Birthday cerebration for our great brother, p'Ton (10/23). Happy Birthday na ka.

Jidai Matsuri

Another main festival in Kyoto, Jidai Matsuri. I missed it last year and kinda missed most of it this year on purpose. It's the parade showing traditional costume of the Japanese which supposed to be quite interesting. Only that we went kimono shopping in the morning and were totally starving that whatever the event it was didn't really matter anymore.

They closed main streets in Kyoto for this event. You can see all the crowds and madness in the pictures. But just facing the other direction - simply empty road! That's the really unseen Kyoto, so yeah.. we were having a great time snapshotting our moments. (^^)

Just as I owed a few people the pictures taken from the new iMac. Just to make it a fun day today. ;-)

Cool Illusion

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink.
If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to gree.
Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture.
After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky!
It's amazing how our brain works.
There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear.
This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.

The Mac Power

Jill's computer arrived today, FINALLY!! So cool and very suitable for her works and studies. Lots of people asked me why I don't also use Mac. Well, I love Mac, but the fact that I still keep using Microsoft programs, there is no point to have to switch. (Or else it will be the MAC body with MS soul -- haha).



We got to try iSight, the attached web camera with the iMac. It's totally a cool stuff! Why? Well.... take a look yourself. (Tell me if you don't laugh looking at it! =P)

Slow Dance

It has actually been around a month after the last episode of Japanese Drama 'Slow Dance' was on the air. Thanks n'Ake for being so kind to record the episodes I missed while going back to Bangkok. I just had a chance to watch it last night.

It is probably normal to witness people who don't know what to do about love. Sometimes we want to fall for someone, but too afraid to start the relationship. Sometimes we want to start, but maybe it's too fast, so we stop. Sometimes we are ready to love, but we don't know how to reveal our feelings. Sometimes things aren't that complicated, but we often don't see the way. "Slow Dance" is a drama about a man and a woman who have feelings for each other, but are not sure of what they should do. He is the type that always puts brakes on his life. And she is the type that rather waits for his approach than to make moves herself. That's why the drama has its name 'Slow Dance'. It proves that love takes time to understand. It's a common and practical story around ourselves, but yet very touching.

Sometimes it is alright to take a longer path to find out how we want to live our lives. For those not so sure if what you are doing is on the right track, this quote is just right for you. (maybe it's for me?)

Happy Osaka

Somehow I feel so happy coming back from Osaka today. I happened to have some rides left on my 3-month pass which will expire next week. Thinking of making the full use of it, I invited a couple of friends to accompany me to Osaka just for the sake of it and to use up the ride quota.

We strolled along the roads in Shinsaibashi and Namba area, ate full meal at HATENA, our fave Thai restaurant - the only one of its kind in the area (that I know of). I was totally lucky since pJung and pTank, the owners of the restaurant, prepared "เนื้อเปื่อย" (what's that in English?? Beef soup kinda thing?). Usually they don't cook that for regular menu, but they happened to cook it today. pJung knows I love his "เนื้อเปื่อย" very much. VERY lucky me, I thought. Two of my friends that went with me just love HATENA a lot. Maybe we will come back to celebrate our friends' birthdays here. Yes, all the way from Kyoto. =)

We walked more back and forth Shinsaibashi and Namba area until all shops closed. Just right then I found another side of Osaka. There were a lot of people lining their street shops in front of those closed stores. It is a normal scene in Thailand, but it is the first time I saw in a city like Osaka (but well... a lot of people say Osaka and Bangkok are alike in many aspects anyways, huh) There were a lot of interesting paintings and photographs. Wish we had more time and energy to walk around and see more of them.

Welcome Party for newcomers

We had a pretty nice and cozy welcome party for the newcomers to Kyoto today. Though it rained, we managed to find a sheltered spot to hold the party. Thanks everyone for arranging and coming to the party na ka!

ปรากฏการณ์ "โลกใบเล็ก" (Small World Phenomenon)

วันนี้อ่านเว็บไปอ่านเว็บมา มาสะดุดกับบทความนี้เข้า "ปรากฏการณ์ "โลกใบเล็ก" คนทั้งโลกรู้จักกันไม่เกิน 6 ช่วง ... จริงหรือ?" เนื้อหามันก็อยู่ที่ทฤษฎีที่ว่า คนเราทุกคนสามารถจะเชื่อมต่อถึงกันได้ผ่านสะพานคนเฉลี่ยประมาณ 5 คน ดูเหมือนน้อยนะ แต่จริงๆแล้วก็น่าจะเป็นไปได้ จำได้ว่าเคยได้ยินเรื่องนี้ครั้งแรก เมื่อนานมาแล้ว จากเพื่อนคนหนึ่งที่เรียนอยู่ที่แคนาดา บอกว่าจะทำการทดลองดูซิว่าทฤษฎีมันเป็นจริงมั้ย เราก็ว่ามันน่าจะเป็นไปได้นะ จนมาถึงตอนนี้ยิ่งคิดยิ่งว่ามันมีโอกาสเป็นไปได้อย่างสูงเลยทีเดียว ซึ่งถ้ามันเป็นไปได้อย่างนั้นแล้ว คำอุทานที่บอกว่า "โห... โลกกลมแฮะ" ก็คงจะหมดความสำคัญไปเยอะเลยทีเดียว เพราะไหนๆก็เป็นเรื่องเกือบจะปกติอยู่แล้วที่เราจะสามารถไปค้นหา โยงใยคนที่เราอยู่จักให้มันมาอยู่ในวงเดียวกันได้...

...จริงมั้ย...

Academy Fantasia 2

I gave up the intention to write about this, but I guess the topic is just too hot not to mention. It's about the talk-of-the-town Academy Fantasia reality TV show.

I happened to be able to go back to Thailand during the same time for two years in a row and it's always the time when AF is on the air. The first time was last year and it created a big boom for reality shows in Thailand. For those who don't know what AF is, it is a reality show that puts 12 so-called "dream catchers" in the AF house where they learn proper singing, dancing and acting classes. Each week they're given a song (or two) to perform according to that weekly concert theme. The one getting the least popular vote will be eliminated at the end of each concert. The last week concert determines who the winner is.
This year, or AF2, already came to its conclude last weekend (Oct 8) when I already came back to Japan. Congratulations to the winner, V4 Off, and also the rest of the AF2 crews. I really do admire these people to work toward their dreams (mostly to become singers). The show became talk-of-the-town because of a lot of reasons, I believe. Being able to witness their lives 24-7 makes most of the watchers feel involved. No wonder the concert hall was always, always packed with people of all age. It's just like they come to cheer their own kids! So amazing. This season, UBC (the producer) got 2 more program fans - my mom and dad. :) This year I had quite a difficulty picking out who to cheer. Each of them seems to have their uniqueness. Not to a surprise if they'll have their ways in the entertainment world.

อยู่มาวันหนึ่ง มีฤาษีคนหนึ่งมาเยี่ยมท่านเศรษฐี
เศรษฐีได้บอกเกี่ยวกับโรคประจำตัวของเขาให้ฤาษีทราบ
ฤาษีจึงบอกกับท่านเศรษฐีว่า

เศรษฐีดีใจมากและคิดว่าสิ่งที่ฤาษีแนะนำเขานั้นเป็นสิ่งที่ทำได้ง่ายมาก

วันรุ่งขึ้น ท่านเศรษฐีจึงจ้างช่างทาสี
หลายร้อยคนมาช่วยกันทาสีของหมู่บ้านให้เป็นสีเขียวทั้งหมด
นอกจากนี้ด้วยความที่รวยมาก ยังซื้อเสื้อผ้า ให้กับคนในหมู่บ้านทุกคนใส่
ในตอนนี้ไม่ว่าท่านเศรษฐีมองไปทางใด ก็จะเป็นสีเขียวตลอดเวลา ตามคำแนะนำของฤาษี
อาการปวดศีรษะของเขา ก็เริ่มดีขึ้นๆ เขาเริ่มเป็นคนยิ้มง่าย
และมีความสุขมากขึ้น

สองสามเดือนถัดมา ท่านฤาษีได้กลับมาเยี่ยมเศรษฐีอีกครั้งหนึ่ง
แต่ก็ต้องเผชิญกับช่างทาสีคนหนึ่งซึ่งร้องตะโกนว่า

"หยุด หยุด ท่านเข้ามาในหมู่บ้านนี้ในชุดนี้ไม่ได้

ฤาษีก็รีบวิ่งและหนีเข้าไปในบ้านของเศรษฐีได้ในที่สุด
ฤาษีได้พบกับเศรษฐีในบ้านและตำหนิว่า
"ทำไมเจ้าถึงเสียเงินทองและเวลามากมายเพื่อเปลี่ยนสิ่งต่างๆ รอบตัวเจ้าเล่า
เราไม่ได้บอกให้เจ้า ไปเที่ยว ทาสีทุกอย่างให้เป็นสีเขียวเลย
เจ้าเพียงแค่สวมแว่นตาสีเขียวเท่านั้น เจ้าก็จะมองเห็นทุกสิ่ง รอบตัวเป็น
สีเขียวแล้ว"

นิทานเรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า: "หากเราต้องการเปลี่ยนสิ่งแวดล้อมรอบตัว
เราไม่จำเป็นต้องเปลี่ยนทุกคนหรือทุกอย่าง
เราเพียงแต่เปลี่ยนตัวของเราเองก่อน

Another day at Muang Thai Insurance Seminar

I ended up joining their second day event too. Today, they had Sena Hoi, a famous stand up comedian in Thailand as a surprise guest. So much fun to see the professional works. pTang and the gang yesterday was so great in entertaining their audience. We know they are not the greatest singers, but they were definitely great entertainers. For Sena Hoi, he is a real smarty. Though the session was a couple of hours long, the whole hall was always full of joy and laughter. Bravo to the organizers! It was a great event ka!

Pollapak RukEay at MueangThai

Riding on the event organized by my relative at Mueang Thai Insurance Company, I joined their private concert with Thai famous "Pollapak RukEay" band. If you are a Thai, you probably know who are the main members of the band, huh?

B.E. meet-up day

A day meet-up sounds rather exaggerated, but well a lunch meeting with p'Tidtee (my upperclassmate from B.E. and also my supervisor at work) and a dinner with some B.E. friends probably give the name some justice. p'Tidtee missed our colleage gathering dinner the other day, so we made it up. Long chat as always. So glad to get to see her after quite some years. Good luck with work na ka. Don't forget to let me know when you are going on the field trips again!
