A Real Superstar

I didn't intend for this post to be right exactly on his birthday, but just watching his concert clip makes me feel so overwhelmed. Who am I talking about? Well, let's take a look!




The person I'm talking about is Bird Thongchai McIntyre, a very famous singer and performer in Thailand.

Bird Thongchai or whom the Thais know as "P'Bird" is a very stunning performer. I don't think there is a single Thai who doesn't know who P'Bird is. And I bet everyone knows and can sing at least one of his songs.

Can you imagine someone at the age of 50 doing something like this? TWENTY TWO years after he released his first album, he still has a lot of fans and they are from all ages -- little kids until grandpa, grandma, all occupations, all social status, and all over the country. (I actually knows a Japanese who is crazy of Bird and really paid for everything just to get herself over to Thailand and see his performance and come back to work!)

For any concert he performs, all the tickets are usually sold out very fast. The tickets for this particular concert in the clip were from 500 Baht (~1,500 yen) up to 5,000 Baht (~15,000 Yen). My gosh!! 5,000 Baht!! That ain't cheap at all. But he still managed to fill up the hall with his fans who were willing to scream, shout, sing and dance the whole 3 hours through. It's just amazing! If I were in Thailand, I think I would have gone to his concert too. :) Not a big fan, but it's undeniable that he is a really good performer and his concert is something worth seeing.

His motto is "Bird loves everyone เบิร์ดรักทุกๆคน" and I think he proves it well. Many singers have dreamed of becoming the guest singers at his concert. The dancers also dream of dancing on stage for his concert. It's just overwhelming to see how he can do all this. If you are to call someone a 'superstar', I think he really deserves it.

ประภาสเป็นหนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้งวงเฉลียง วงโปรด (สุดๆ) ของเรา เรียกว่าเป็นการปฏิวัติวงการเพลงเลยก็ได้ ใครจะคิดว่าคอนเซ็ปต์ง่ายๆเรื่องการทอดไข่เจียว จะกลายเป็นเพลงฮิตติดลมบน "นายไข่เจียว" ขึ้นมาได้ หรือว่าคำอวยพรบ้านๆ "ขอให้เจ้าภาพจงเจริญ" จะเป็นเพลงฮอตฮิตขึ้นมาได้ ประภาสมีสำนวนในการเปรียบเปรยที่ฟัังแล้วเข้าใจง่าย มีภาษาที่สละสวล เีพียงแค่หยิบยื่นมุมมองความคิดในอีกมุมนึง ก็ทำให้เราได้ข้อคิดดีๆอะไรหลายๆอย่าง


เมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา (6 ก.ค.) ได้มีโอกาสไปดูคอนเสิร์ตเพลงแบบประภาส จัดขึ้นที่ีศูนย์วัฒนธรรม... ฟังเพลงประภาสจนอิ่มเลย เล่นกัน 4 ชม.ครึ่ง (รอบสุดท้าย) เสียแต่ว่าคอนเสิร์ตไม่น่าเริ่มช้าไปเกือบชั่วโมง

ศิลปินหลักที่มาร่วมร้องคือ เจนนิเฟอร์ คิ้ม, เบน ชลาทิศ (เพิ่งเคยเห็นตัวจริงวันนี้... หน้าคล้ายๆพี่ยมแห่งเป็นต่อนะนั่น... แต่เวอร์ชั่นตัวใหญ่กว่า 555), ปาน ธนพร, พี่บี พีระพัฒน์ เถรว่อง, โอ๋และลูกหว้า ดูบาดู, ขาดไม่ได้คือพี่ป้าง นครินทร์ กิ่งศักดิ์ (พี่เท่มากๆพี่) แล้วก็มีพิเศษที่ขาดไม่ได้คือเฉลียงกับสามโทน วงคู่บุญการแต่งเพลงของพี่จิก อ้อ.. แล้วก็มีเพลิน พรหมแดนมาด้วยนะ... ฮาซะ


เพลงที่ร้องก็มีตั้งแต่เพลงของเฉลียง สามโทน แล้วก็มีเพลงฮิตอื่นๆเช่น ไม้ขีดไฟกับดอกทานตะวัน (เวอร์ชั่นแรกของวิยะดา โกมารกุล), รุ้งอ้วน + พี่ชายที่แสนดี (ระวิวรรณ จินดา), รักเธอแต่เธอไม่รู้ (หนุ่มเสก), ฟั่นเฟือน (พงศ์พัฒน์ วชิรบรรจง -- เพลงนี้พี่ป้างเอามาร้อง... กรี๊ด.. สลบ) แล้วก็สารพัดเพลงที่จะมี


แต่หนึ่งเพลงที่ประทับใจมากๆเลยก็คือเพลง "ต้นชบากับคนตาบอด" ที่ได้น้องตั๊ก อธิศรี สงเคราะห ที่พิการทางสายตาจริงๆมาเป็นผู้ขับร้อง น้องตั๊กนี่มีพรสวรรค์ในการร้องเพลงมากๆ ชื่นชมๆ ชอบมากๆค่ะ

มีอีกเพลงที่ชอบชื่อเพลง "ควายไทย" ขับร้องโดยธงชัย ประสงค์สันติ แต่ไม่รู้จะหาเนื้อได้จากไหน เพลงออกแนวซื่อๆ ใครได้ฟังอาจจะเลิกว่าคนอื่นโดยใช้ควายไทยเป็นตัวเปรียบเปรยได้

GR concert

Having to rush back in town from visiting P'Charng the other day only because I had a date!!! No.. no.. no... I'm not kidding :-) I really was looking forward to the evening of June 22 because I would get to go to the concert with Grove Riders (a.k.a. GR), one of my most favorite bands in Thailand.

It was not a pure GR concert, but rather a pack of 3 artists (or well, groups of artists): Boy Peacemaker, Palmy and GR. The concert was named "Nestle' Fitnesse Fit Your Shape Fit Your Style Concert" -- my goodness... can it get any longer?!?! I really can't and never will remember the whole name. The most I'd remember would probably be the Nestle' fit something, something and something. =P But well, at least they got the message through. It's registered that this is the concert sponsored by Nestle'!

I really had a great time as I have never been to a concert like this in a really, really long time. Can you imagine, it has already been more than 5 years I'm away from home! No wonder.. no wonder.. One thing I realized though... I shouldn't get a job as a lecturer, cuz if my students see me dancing in the concert, I would have been very embarrassed. haha =P (Or else, I should stop dancing!)
