Naoshima ... the Art Island! (Part III)

Let's come back to Naoshima! The blog today will take you around the Benesse House.

the Benesse House

The Benesse House

The Benesse House is the core building of the Benesse Art Site in which was designed by the famous Tadao Ando and opened to public in 1982. The place retains the concept of the coexistence of nature, art, and architecture. All rooms in the buildings face toward the seaside that everyone can absorb the beauty of nature.

Invited artists had the freedom to select their own site to produce their works which would be permanently displayed. This permits them to make the most use of natural surroundings of Naoshima along with the architecture by Ando. The art exhibition can be found both indoors and also along the coastline and within the forest around the Benesse Musuem. The ones indoor are grouped according to specific themes. The piece of art extended to the interior of guest rooms. Too bad we didn't have a chance to spend a night there (they only have 10 guest rooms), so we didn't have a permission to access that part of the site.
