Last weekend was the Thai Fair at Carrefour in Japan. P'Pum~ and I teamed up to take care of the campaign held in Myokouike branch, Osaka Prefecture (VERY FAR!!). Nothing much but just to share how expensive these things can get outside of our country.
mango @ 250 yen / piece
this is how they eat mango here
Durian @ 1,780 yen (we found it relatively cheap if compare to other stores in Japan)
mangosteen @ 158 yen / piece (Yes... per piece!!! Ick... so darn expensive!!!
young coconut @ 198 yen
coconut @ 598 yen (not only pricy... but I wonder if they know how to deal with this??)
Mama instant noodle: 5 packs for 198 yen (quite decent, huh!)
my task on the second day was to hand out samples of "Tom Yum Koong" and "Tom Kha Kai"
Well, in that case, I'm the happiest gourmand in the world! (Note the difference between Gourmand and Gourmet, girls!)
Mangosteen, my most favorite fruit (well, tied with Rambutan), can be purchased at 20 Baht per kilo in Bangkok if:
1. You know where to buy, or 2. You know how to bargain, or 3. You have a friend who knows how to bargain, or 4. You have a friend who happens to be a fruit vendor, or, the sure card is, 5. You have enough merit from your previous lives!
Worse come to worst, you pay 25 Baht per kilo la, if it's in season! But if it's not, it can be VERY expensive, too! And I mean 45 or even 50 Baht per kilo mang ja? Oh, scary! :-P
So, let's make friends with mangosteen growers, shall we?
Writing all this, and seeing your beautiful photos, make me want to make my usual run for the local supermarket la! hee hee hee
Will eat my heart out for you two na ja.
Oh, and, Nong Mai, on behalf of the people of Thailand (sounds very formal), your compatriots over here, thank you so much for donning up beautiful Thai traditional attire and work so hard to promote the product of our country na ja.
I totally have no idea why mangosteen can get this expensive here. But people still buy them, u know. and P'Nash... thanks for reminding it's only 20 bath/kg. over there!! (-"-) It's our favorite too ka (also rambutan). I also like durian.. but P'Yai doesn't. Oh man... really wanna go back during this time of the year jing jing.
Anyways, please eat your heart out for us and gain a few kilos for us too na! This merit will help you in your writing na. haha =P
Btw, the lady in the picture was P'Pum~, my friend na. not me der!
