Went to TU Tha Prachan today to join a Seminar on "Business Opportunity in the Creative Economy" by Thammasat Business Consulting Center (attached to Faculty of Commerce and Accounting).
Speakers: Khun Apirak Kosayodhin (former Bangkok Governor), Khun Katatong Tongyai (DIP), Asst. Prof. Dr. Karndee Leopairot (TBCC), Dr. Poomporn Thamsatitdej (College of Innovation, TU)What is "Creative Economy"?
Creative Economy actually means different things for different people (this is totally a universal problem to almost everything else too. We need just one good definition, but we often don't have one!) But anyways, after spending a few month researching on something related to Creative Economy, I have come to like a broad definition used by Dr.Karndee, one of the speakers to this seminar. She said that it's very difficult to follow any definition by UNESCO or UNCTAD as it gets to narrow in terms of classifying which industry is a creative industry and which is not (true!).
We should actually look at "CREATIVE ECONOMY" as "something to help shifting our country's port from simply base on primary service to a higher level of service by creating additional value through using creativity combined with local assets and the use of technology."

- The key for value creation = skill + culture (both heritage and living style) + technology
- Value is created through "story telling". But story telling needs to be based on facts and truths
- Good service in the CE world is through "Experience"
- If you want more details, come look at my research note! ;-)
Implementing a concept of Creative Economy is still something challenging. I hope that people would, at the very least, understand that Creative Economy is not restricted to only aesthetic type of creativity. All kinds of businesses and practices can be creative is you know how to combine your skill + culture (whatever you have in hand) + use of technology!
